    This is it. American mayors are way overcomplicating things. Use authority to eliminate (most) cars from areas that are reasonably walkable & transit-connected. Stop waiting until every person in Ronkonkoma has the perfect transit connection at their doorstep.

    In Europe, strong mayors are simply exercising policy authority to punt automobiles from areas that are walkable and transit-accessible, and it's working. Zero-carbon transportation is way up. Today!

    This is Paris, today. In a very short space of time, the city has built temporary infrastructure enabling 1 million daily cycle journeys. If you haven’t visited in a while, some parts are unrecognisable. Imagine if every person cycling here decided to jump in a car instead.

    Jersey City continues to bike circles around New York. The keyword here is "all." Jersey City knows what's safe, and applies it universally. New York knows what's safe, and applies it ad-hoc in wealthy white neighborhoods.

    We are in the process of buying jersey barriers for all of our protected bike lanes. We are planning on moving from flex posts to more substantial protection in 2022. Pricing is coming back now to make the change as we think it will be safer for the network + cheaper in long term

    We are in the process of buying jersey barriers for all of our protected bike lanes. We are planning on moving from flex posts to more substantial protection in 2022. Pricing is coming back now to make the change as we think it will be safer for the network + cheaper in long term

    It’s a substantial cost for us but the reality is constantly replacing the flex posts isn’t reasonable $$ spend and the rate the flex posts get knocked down in some places speaks to the safety issues for users .

    The US made it extremely difficult to maintain residential stability without buying a house and then painted anyone who didn’t buy a house as deviant because they couldn’t maintain stability. All while reserving homeownership almost exclusively for white people!

    realizing that the 30 year mortgage is basically middle class rent control unlocked a lot of things in my thinking
