If I were the Canadians I would just release Meng after this comment. Why cooperate on a hostage taking?

We're going to need a spot where America and China can exchange corporate hostages. Like Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, but with easier access for private jets.

My 15 year-old is pretty sure that most of his classmates know how to spell "smoking" correctly. Which may not sound like a big deal, except that he attends a Japanese public school.

A note for Tariff Man, who thinks foreigners pay tariffs. Here are steel prices in the US and world export markets as the Trump tariff went into effect, from Kind of looks as if Americans paid the tariff, doesn't it?

In Canada, there’s a small but vocal Team Cold War that has cheered Meng’s arrest, perhaps because it will create a deep rift between Canada and China. If you praise the arrest before even hearing what the charges are, you’re giving away your hand.

As in case of questions such as “who pays tariffs”, binary answers do not reflect more nuanced realities and only foster polarisation. Is not an issue of “who trades ONLY on WTO terms”, but how much trade occurs under WTO terms ALONE; answer us “a lot”... /1

_ When US & Japan were fighting in 1980s like US China now, USTR types had same bilat deficit disorder. • They’re not trained economist & nature of their job makes them see exports as good & imports as bad. • So yes, I think Bob has drunk the deficit cool-aid.
