The IETF meeting is held in Sweden for the first time. The Royal Institute of Technology, with some dedicated Internet tech people working hard at it, deploys a 34 Mbps/s line to the US via England. After the IETF meeting, this capacity is retained to the benefit of all Swedish Internet users.

The Internet Society Sweden Chapter is formed and recognized by ISOC. Founded by some 30 members that elect Östen Frånberg as its first chairman of the board.

The ISOC Sweden Chapter founds the Internet Infrastructure Foundation (IIS). Its mission is to take responsibility for the .se registry. Björn Eriksen, NIC (Network Information Center) for .se and employed at KTH, transforms his NIC responsibilities to IIS. The surplus revenue from the registry operations in the IIS subsidiary NIC-SE is to be invested into the evolution and usage of Internet in Sweden for all.

On 4 February 1994, Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt exchanged email with the U.S President Bill Clinton, as an intentionally symbolic event that made Internet email officially accepted outside the tech and Internet savvy Swedish community. It spurred Internet usage among business and privately and contributed to Sweden being the second country after the US to embrace Internet on a broad national scale.
