Lee Sedol fought back after losing the first three games to solidly defeat AlphaGo in the fourth round. AlphaGo started off strong but was pressured by Lee’s brilliant play into making some mistakes, of which he took advantage. Playing as white, Lee won when AlphaGo resigned after 180 moves, heightening the drama ahead of the final game → goo.gl/O2c480

Chess and Go are considered the two most strategic board games of all time. But whereas chess uses almost only the analytic, or left, half of the brain, playing Go requires both halves. AlphaGo won its third straight game, claiming overall match victory against Lee Sedol. AlphaGo created a large territory on the board but Lee used innovative tactics to start a huge all-or-nothing kō fight and complicate the situation. In the resulting kō fight, AlphaGo prevailed. Two more games will be played to determine the final match score → goo.gl/O2c480

We’re beginning to move Google’s blogs to a new domain, “googleblog.com,” in order to help people better recognize when they are reading an official blog from Google. The previous blog addresses will redirect to the new domain, so all bookmarks and links will continue to work.

You can already see the new domain on more than a dozen blogs, including search.googleblog.com, security.googleblog.com and developers.googleblog.com. We plan to roll these changes out to all of our blogs over time.

AlphaGo won the second game, taking a 2-0 lead over Lee Sedol in this five-game match. During the first match, Lee made difficult moves to agitate AlphaGo, but that didn’t work. Today, he tried the opposite and played safe. Commentators were surprised by AlphaGo’s creativity, describing it as a beautiful, innovative game. Both Lee and AlphaGo used their entire two hours of time, going into byō-yomi overtime → goo.gl/O2c480

AlphaGo takes the first game against Lee Sedol. In a game filled with complex fighting, they were neck and neck all the way to the end. Lee Sedol made many aggressive moves, but AlphaGo did not back down from the fights → goo.gl/O2c480
