Shame on Google

FINALLY:
3D Touch integration and Search Along Route option.

STILL LACKING:
"Without Traffic" time estimate. LIST of route options. Short description of each route. Option to disable night mode. Speed limits.

But what it DOES tell me... is that it would take 16 days to walk to work. That's always good to know.

Google, I can not tell you how important the recently removed features are. "Without traffic" was so helpful when planning trips. Say I want to drive to a water park tomorrow. I put it in my phone the night before. Well, right now there's an accident and it says it is going to take an hour and 45 min when in reality it's typically only an hour and 20 min. It is so helpful to know what it will be like TOMORROW when I actually go and there is no traffic.

Short descriptions were also very helpful when looking through the LIST of best route options. If I'm looking through the routes, it is much more helpful to see "Garden State Parkway and I-95" rather than a BLANK white rectangle. Why remove helpful features for no reason whatsoever?

The list of best routes was probably the best thing about the app and poof it's gone. Now I have to spend five minutes looking at a map and flipping through each route to figure out which one I should take. PLEASE bring back the lists of routes!

And unless you're in a city, walking and biking times aren't important and do not need to be on the main navigation page.

Currently unusable for me.

I've been using Google Maps for years for directions and exploring. Just before this most recent update and also after the update, I noticed a problem that has caused me to not even be able to use the app anymore. There are completely random, huge black squares and rectangles all over the place in satellite mode. When I'm completely zoomed out, they cover almost all of North America and as I zoom in and out the come and go in different areas, covering about half the screen. I like to be able to take a look at the lanes and roads around unfamiliar drives, but it's all but impossible with this bug. I've tried re-downloading the app multiple times and restarted my phone. I hope this gets fixed soon because this is really the first issue I've ever had with the app, though I will not be using it while this problem remains.

Can't get 3D Touch to work

Even after un-installing & re-installing, I see no more evidence of 3D Touch functionality in this release, than in the last one (that is to say, none) on my 6s running 9.2.1. The mid-trip diversion seems to work well as a newly-introduced feature, though! I almost always STILL use Google Maps instead of Apple Maps, unless Google is having some connectivity/server issue. I'd look at Apple Maps again IF they would finally get some public transit functionality for my area, but no love yet. Google Maps has had it fairly consistently right since day one on iOS!
