I am getting an error now with my cards. They were working great for the site, but all of a sudden stopped working as of the last few days. I just did a preview and this is the error it gave me:
"Looks like something is technically wrong. Please try again in a few minutes."

I have tried multiple times to update and make sure all of our meta tags are properly in-place and setup exactly as they should be. The only change I made recently was to the original meta og:description we had, it was set to name=" instead of property=". After changing that to what it should be, it seemed to have stopped working.

Not sure what the issue is, but would love to see if I can get this figured out since it's throwing back "something is technically wrong". Thank you!

Did you check with the preview tool? https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards/preview

It's a good way to troubleshoot issues.

Yes, I did, I even stated in the second paragraph exactly what the preview tool states. It gives me the error: "Looks like something is technically wrong. Please try again in a few minutes." I've updated, reconfigured, duplicated our tags 100 different ways. I've tried previewing at night, in the morning, different URLs, nothing. Always the EXACT same error "Looks like something is technically wrong." This seems to be an internal twitter issue, as I've confirmed the tags and everything else is 100% setup correctly on our site - but it's still not working. :/

Any help with this? Something seems broken and there's nothing else I can do. I've tried everything. It was working fine, then all of a sudden stopped. I've even tried reverting back yet no luck at all.

Any update on this yet? I'm still stuck here and everything I do makes no difference. I just don't get it, I'm desperate to get this fixed and running again. It was working perfectly fine and just stopped! I've made every change and tweak and suggestion you've given me, but absolutely no change or progress. I'm getting more and more frustrated because I've done everything and really would like to get this back in working order yet no progress. Any help yet? Thank you.

Card preview still seems to be broken. Like @firstshowing, I'm getting

Looks like something is technically wrong.
Please try again in a few minutes.

regardless of input, including the provided sample markup. Based on googling, this seems to have been going on for weeks now.

I'm also getting "Looks like something is technically wrong.
Please try again in a few minutes.". I used example tags from your docs and still no dice =(

I'm having the same problem, but it doesn't look like it's been discussed in over a week. Any fix?

When my own tags didn't work, I copied the example tags for the NY Times article and changed the tags one by one to see where the problem lies.

I can change everything but the image. It appears that twitter:image has to be a link to an image on the NY Times site, as it will work with any of their images, but if it's a link to an image on any of the dozen other sites I've tried, I get the same error message stated above.

@daffadillies Brett Barnett

Hi, just a general question.

Does twitter:url have to be the full URL of the webpage? I use my own redirects for short URLs, so if I use the long URL (on daffadillies.co.uk) in the twitter:url tag, will my twitter cards still appear when someone links to my site with my short URL (daffadilli.es)?

I've wondered this too... I've found (tho cant categorically confirm) that using the short url in the twitter:url meta tag does seem to work a bit better.

Hi,

I'm wondering whether an approved domain will allow *.domain.com or only the applied domain name?

I applied for http://pic.jkt48.org but recently have implemented twitter cards on my main site at jkt48.org. Should I re-apply for validation? (the pic.jkt48.org has not been validated yet)

@froginthevalley Sylvain Carle

You should resubmit with *.domain.com

Also make sure everything works before, using https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards/preview to test (if the example URLs you submit have incorrect markup, you will be rejected).

JKT48org
@JKT48org JKT48 Fan Site

Thanks, I've resubmitted my application with *.jkt48.org as the domain name.

By the way, I want to confirm something. For summary type twitter cards, the twitter card description can be substituted by open graph description right? Meaning that if I have an open graph description(og:description), twitter card description (twitter:description) is no longer necessary?

I've tested with the preview tool and it works as expected, but I'd like to confirm this.

11 weeks 2 days ago
froginthevalley
@froginthevalley Sylvain Carle

Yes, that is correct. You can omit some Twitter specific tags if you the have OG equivalent in your markup.

AkaashMaharaj
@AkaashMaharaj Akaash Maharaj

Earlier this evening, I received an automated e-mail from Twitter, stating, "Your [sic] submitted a request for http://www.maharaj.org/ to be included in Twitter Cards.  Unfortunately we determined that your application was incomplete and needs to be resubmitted," and suggesting that I try the preview tool at https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards/preview

When I use the preview tool, with http://www.maharaj.org/blog/2012_08_08.shtml as the "media URL", I keep receiving the error

* Our fetcher fails to fetch image at URL http://www.maharaj.org/images/twtcet.png.
* HTTP response code: 406.

despite the fact that the image at that URL comes up in my browser without issues. The image is also well within the 120x120px and 60x60px requirements.

Stranger still, if I remove the valid http://www.maharaj.org/images/twtcet.png URL from my meta tags and replace it with an invalid URL (ie a URL leading to an image that does not exist), the preview tool successfully generates a card (ie there is no error message as above), except that there is a tiny "404" message in the image square.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there some sort of error in the preview tool?

11 weeks 3 days ago
AkaashMaharaj
@AkaashMaharaj Akaash Maharaj

I should note that since writing the message above, I have placed my image on a different server and amended my meta tags to point to the new server. The preview tool successfully pulls the image from the new server and renders the card. It appears to me that the Twitterbot is not properly configured to work with Microsoft-IIS/6.0 servers.

@froginthevalley Sylvain Carle

Your problem was not specific to the type of server but more about the robots.txt rules of the server. See more details at https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards#crawling

11 weeks 2 days ago
AkaashMaharaj
@AkaashMaharaj Akaash Maharaj

Thanks for your reply, but I am not sure how the robots.txt rules on my server could have such an effect: as you can see at http://www.maharaj.org/robots.txt the sum total of the file is

USER-AGENT: *
DISALLOW:

which explicitly authorises any and all crawlers to access and index any and all content at the site. I note from https://dev.twitter.com/discussions/10926 that several other people with IIS servers are encountering exactly the same problem I have described here.

HTTP 406 is a "not acceptable" error. What is your web server? This looks like the headers set by your server are not standard.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get in touch with the twitter support team but I'm having a hard time getting through so I'm posting my issue here.

I just received the email authorizing my url (IrasWorld.com | @IrasWorld) for the twitter cards.
However I've submitted only for twitter player and the code implemented inside the head of the index page for IrasWorld.com is working properly according to the card preview tool.
So I don't understand what happened here, I've asked to be approved for player card and I'm being approved for summary & photos ?
I've re-applied once more but would you please mind helping me with this please ?

Godspeed,
Sincerely,

Iras

This looks like a bug on our side, it seems the OG tags are the one that are used to render the cards, the Twitter:Tags should have precedence. I will report this to the engineering team. Might take a while before it's fixed but we are working on it.

Sorry for the tech mumbo jumbo. Let me try again:

It looks like you did what you had to do on your side correctly.

The fact that it does not works makes me think we (Twitter) have a bug when some conditions are present, like in your page HTML source.

Does this make more sense?

11 weeks 2 days ago
IrasWorld
@IrasWorld Iras

Oh I understand perfectly the tech mumbo jumbo as I'm a developer myself. The part I don't understand is what it has to do with my issue.

Right now twitter sees my cod without any issue. My issue here is that I've been approved for summary & photo card instead of video card for which I've applied for.

So right now when I modify my code so that summary and/or photo card shows up we are all good but if I leave the player card code it doesn't.

Which confirm the email twitter sent me.
Do you follow me ?
Basically you've forgot to approve me for player cards as well that's it.

Well, I did the review for your site and player cards are enabled. That's why I'm saying that there is a bug, since it SHOULD work, but it's not. Give us a few days to find out why it's not working and to fix the problem.

Player Cards can take a bit longer to be approved, expect 5-10 days for us to turn these request around. If there is some technical issues, it can be a few more days of back and forth between you and us.

I'd like to show metatags only if it's Twitter calling the link and nothing otherwise.
