Mathematics is about analysis of models of the world that surrounds us. The research at Department of Mathematics encompasses both theoretical and applications issues and is concentrated in four main areas, all of which are central for the technical sciences:
• Discrete Mathematics: graph theory, coding theory, and cryptology.
• Dynamical Systems: ordinary differential equations, iterative systems, complex systems, theoretical mechanics and bifurcation theory.
• Applied Functional Analysis: partial differential equations, optimal design, wavelets and generalized Fourier analysis.
• Geometry: topology and geometry of curves, surfaces and manifolds, including knot theory and computer-aided geometric design.
