Open Source Java Multiplayer Games

Crossfire is a free and open-source cooperative multiplayer graphical RPG and adventure game. Set in a medieval fantasy world, it combines real-time action with traditional role-playing mechanics inspired by games such as Gauntlet, NetHack, Moria, and Angband. Players can choose from 14 races and 16 character classes, develop skills and magic, worship gods, complete quests, discover powerful artifacts, and explore thousands of interconnected maps filled with monsters, dungeons, cities, and adventures. Crossfire has been continuously developed since 1992 and remains an actively maintained community project.

2D isometric MMORPG using the SDL framework. Daimonin offers a free public server at https://www.daimonin.org . A Unity client is also in active development.

Shoddy Battle (later known as Pokémon Lab) is a Pokémon simulator created by Cathy and bearzly and first released in July 2007. It allows users to play Pokémon matches against other people online. Shoddy Battle was highly influential on the game of competitive Pokémon because it was free and open source, scalable (700,000 battles per month during its peak), user customisable and extensible, and it provided unprecedented statistical data on player skill and Pokémon usage trends. This is a 2D shooting action game for two players for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. Current release written in C++ using the SDL library with its extensions. Next release will be in Java.
